Rikugien can be said to be one of the most popular places during cherry blossom season and autumn. The garden was built in 1702 by Yanagisawa Yoshiyasu. This garden was built because it was inspired by the beautiful scenery in waka poetry. Walking through the front gate inside the park presents an impressive view of a 70-year-old shidarezakura (weeping cherry blossom) tree. Even today, its branches are covered in pale pink flowers during cherry blossom season, cascading down like a waterfall. The “Rikugien Gardens: Special Nighttime Viewing in Spring” event allows visitors to enter the gardens at night, when it is usually closed, to enjoy the cherry blossoms.

Back in the Edo period, Yoshimune, the eighth Tokugawa shogun (military commander), ordered the planting of cherry blossoms along both banks, to form a kilometer-long cherry blossom highway stretching from the Azumabashi Bridge to the Sakurabashi Bridge. During the Bokutei Sakura-matsuri Festival, local councils, businesses, and tourism associations will set up stalls and bring a festive atmosphere to the area. At night, the flowers are illuminated with the added bonus of the Tokyo Skytree in the background.
5. Sakura Festival in Chiyoda

Just north of the Imperial Palace, the Chidorigafuchi Green Road provides a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city in spring with a 700-meter-long tunnel of cherry trees. During the Chiyoda Sakura Festival, held annually from late March to early April, around 260 trees of the Somei-yoshino and Oshima varieties are illuminated at dusk. The Chidorigafuchi boating area is also open late during the festival so visitors can see this magical sight from the water. Don’t forget that you can also enjoy the many shops opened by local residents with a cherry blossom theme.

Ueno Park is one of the most popular recreational spaces in Tokyo, and every year it always attracts the attention of many people. Satami friends can enjoy the museum, Shinobazu Pool and even the zoo. Along the main road there are cherry trees which have been recognized by the famous poet, Matsuo Basho, as saying that the area is very beautiful.
7. Koganei Cherry Blossom Festival

The Koganei Cherry Blossom Festival really has it all. Not only does it take place at the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum, but the park is home to over 1,700 cherry trees of around 50 different varieties. On stage, there will be music, dancing, hayashi (musical accompaniment for traditional stage performances), and taiko drumming. You can also experience a tea ceremony and flower arranging.
